Accor and Chinese developer kick off partnership with Shenzhen site

Accor has signed a new strategic partnership with Overseas Chinese Town (OCT) Hotel Group which will begin with a Fairmont Hotels & Resorts property in Shenzhen.

The agreement will expand the relationship between the two companies by developing hospitality projects across China.

Nature resort

The latest cooperation’s first site will be the 312-key Fairmont Shenzhen Interlaken, which is set to open by the end of 2024.

The hotel will be located in the Overseas Chinese Town East (OCT East) nature resort in Yantian District. OCT East and its surrounding area will undergo extensive refurbishments and upgrades, and the arrival of Fairmont Shenzhen Interlaken is intended to add a new level of luxury, quality and prestige.

Green credentials

The Fairmont brand places top priority on environmental sustainability and stewardship. Fairmont Shenzhen Interlaken will continue this, with its setting among the mountains and rivers of east Shenzhen.

Fairmont is now actively participating in Accor’s long-term commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, while pursuing sustainable practices related to plastics initiative, design, proactive construction, procurement policies, and energy efficiency, as well as community outreach through local groups and partnerships. Accor and Fairmont feel they will bring expertise in environmental sustainability to Fairmont Shenzhen Interlaken, as well as all future projects with OCT Hotel Group.

Shared vision

Gary Rosen, CEO, Accor Greater China, said: “We have a powerful working relationship with OCT Hotel Group, which we have established over the years with the Pullman Lijiang Hotel and Pullman Zhouzhuang Hotel. This new agreement strengthens our bond and formalises our relationship as we continue to forge exceptional development opportunities.

“Accor and OCT share a vision for the hospitality sector in China that is built on our confidence in both the Chinese travel market and in the capabilities of our two companies. This confidence enables us to embrace the evolution of the industry, reach new heights, and demonstrate our commitment to the most dynamic tourism market in the world.”

Next level

Ni Zheng, standing committee member of the party committee, and deputy general manager of OCT Group, added: “Accor is one of our most valued partners and we are delighted to take our relationship to the next level, particularly with the creation of an extraordinary Fairmont hotel in the Greater Bay area.

“We are keen to establish OCT East as a world-class eco-tourism destination. Together, with Accor and Fairmont, we are certain that Chinese travellers will discover an innovative and luxurious experience that will mark the beginning of a new era for OCT East.”

The Fairmont brand has further projects on the slate in China, including two 200-room sites scheduled to deliver in Q4 2023: Fairmont Xiamen, taking shape in the Xiamen Airport Building, and Fairmont Zhuhai Dawan District, part of the Zhuhai Shimao Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Port City Commercial and Cultural Centre by Benoy.
