AC Hotel by Marriott brings European flair to Sawgrass Mills

The retail company Simon has started construction that will ultimately bring the AC Hotel by Marriott to Sawgrass Mills, the largest outlet and value retail shopping centre in the United States.

Simon Property Group recently announced the start of construction which will bring the AC Hotel by Marriott brand to Sawgrass Mills, the United States’ single largest outlet mall based in Florida.

This 174-room hotel is expected to make its debut by late 2020, a timeframe which coincides with Sawgrass Mill’s 30th anniversary.

It will be an eight-story hotel developed by Norwich Partners, and plans include modern guest rooms and public spaces with sleek furnishings, an open closet system, elegant art and hardwood floors.

Experts in the hospitality space expect the deal to be a productive one for both Marriott and Sawgrass Mills.

Top-notch amenities for today’s travellers

In addition to the sleek design and modern stylings, the new hotel will feature a long list of top-tier luxury amenities.

There will be an AC Lounge, a communal creative space with a full bar serving local beers and craft cocktails (including the signature Gintonic), along with tapas plates. The new property will also provide European-style breakfast and a 24-hour fitness centre.

“The combination of a stylish, European-inspired AC Hotel by Marriott and the incredible energy of Sawgrass Mills will appeal to a broad audience, including locals and international visitors who often stay for multi-day shopping trips,” said Patrick Peterman, Simon’s Senior Vice President of Development and Asset Intensification.

“The project underscores our strategy of adding mixed-use components to our shopping centres to enhance their reputation as an exciting destination to shop, live, work, play, and stay.”

The perfect location

Florida has long been a popular market for European tourists, which is likely part of the reason Sawgrass Mills has opted to partner with the European-inspired AC Hotel by Marriott.

The hotel will be built at the steps of The Colonnade Outlets at Sawgrass Mills. This places it in a vibrant locale, one that is near its most recent expansion and next to the new Seasons 52 restaurant.

“The iconic Sawgrass Mills is a perfect location for one of our European-infused AC hotels, especially since people flock to this shopping centre from all over the world,” said Eric Jacobs, Marriott International, Chief Development Officer, North America, Marriott Select Brands.

“The location will also be a hit with members of the Marriott Bonvoy travel program since travellers today tend to seek hotels located within walking distance to entertainment and shopping.”

ABOUT THE BRAND

AC Hotels was borne from the vision of Spanish hotelier Antonio Catalan, who created a new kind of stay for a new kind of traveler – a creative, entrepreneurial and modern global traveler – who prefers to have fewer things, but expect them to be better than good.
