IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a deal for the Holiday Inn Resort Luang Prabang Naluang Hill in Laos. The 101-key property is scheduled to open in 2027 and will be the company’s first hotel in Luang Prabang, a city on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. The owner is Naluang International Resort and Hotel Limited.
The resort will be located on Naluang Hill, with views over the city. Guests will be within reach of the Ancient Town, which also carries the UNESCO listing. Luang Prabang is known for its temples and for a mix of Lao and French colonial influences. IHG describes it as a leading tourism destination in Laos.
What the Resort Will Offer
The property will have guestrooms, suites, and villas, 101 in total. It will include four food and beverage venues, a swimming pool, a fitness center, and a spa. There will also be more than 500 square meters of meeting space. IHG says that space suits small-to-medium-sized events and retreats.
Holiday Inn will bring its family program to the hill, including Kids Stay & Eat Free. The brand is known for family travel, and the resort will keep that focus. Chen Yichao, a director at Naluang International Resort and Hotel Limited, said the owner wants a hilltop resort that reflects Luang Prabang’s character. He said the property should serve leisure guests, celebrations, corporate retreats, and meetings.
Why Luang Prabang, and Why Now
IHG points to several draws in the area, including:
- Mount Phousi
- Kuang Si Falls
- Pak Ou Caves
- Mekong River experiences
Travel to the city has also become easier. Luang Prabang International Airport serves the area, and high-speed rail links now add to regional connectivity. IHG says these links are helping demand for meetings, incentives, and corporate retreats, alongside leisure travel. Shi’ai Liang, IHG’s Senior Director of Development for South East Asia and Korea, said the company sees opportunity in destinations that pair cultural connections with strong hospitality.
Naluang International Resort and Hotel Limited described the resort as one of the few internationally branded resorts in Luang Prabang. It expects the property to be a base for guests who want to explore local culture and traditions. Some will come to spend time with family and friends. Others will come to rest.
IHG already operates two hotels in Laos, both in the capital, Vientiane. They are a Crowne Plaza and a Holiday Inn & Suites, with 471 keys between them. The Luang Prabang signing will extend the company’s reach beyond Vientiane. IHG expects to broaden its presence in the country next year.
