IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement for a 250-key Crowne Plaza in the Sixth Settlement area of New Cairo. The owner is Kleek Development, a joint venture between Emaar Al Delta for Contracting and Real Estate Investment and Modern Style Home Real Estate Company. The hotel is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2031. It will add to IHG’s premium lineup in Egypt, where the company says demand for internationally branded hotels keeps rising.
The property will be located in a mixed-use corridor that is developing quickly. New Cairo has become one of Egypt’s fastest-growing districts, helped along by ongoing infrastructure spending and a rising population. Domestic and international companies are also showing more interest in the area. The hotel is meant to serve the business, commercial, and residential communities spreading across East Cairo.
Meeting Space Plays a Big Role
The hotel will have a mix of guest rooms and suites, along with four places to eat and drink. These include an all-day dining restaurant, a lobby lounge, and a bar. Leisure facilities will include a swimming pool, a fitness center, a spa, and retail space. The mix is aimed at travelers who stay for work and for longer leisure trips.
Meeting space is a large part of the plan. The hotel will have six meeting and event spaces, including a dedicated ballroom. Companies could use the rooms for strategy sessions, while families could book the ballroom for weddings and other celebrations. Having both types of space under one roof gives the hotel a way to hold corporate and social events from the same address.
The design follows two Crowne Plaza concepts built around how guests split their time between work and rest:
- Plaza Workspace: A reworked hotel lobby with dedicated areas for both personal and professional use.
- WorkLife Room: A guest room with separate zones for work, relaxation, and sleep.
Growth in Egypt
Haitham Mattar, IHG’s Managing Director for India, Middle East, and Africa, said guests no longer draw a firm line between work and downtime. “They want a hotel that gives them the flexibility to work, connect with colleagues, and switch off,” he said. Mattar added that Crowne Plaza fits the New Cairo market for that reason. The brand’s flexible spaces were planned with that guest in mind.
Eng. Hussein Dawoud, CEO of Kleek Development, said the partnership reflects the developer’s confidence in the district. He noted that residents, businesses, and visitors all continue to show strong interest in New Cairo. Dawoud said IHG’s global experience and the Crowne Plaza name will help the team deliver the project. The hotel is expected to become part of the community it is being built to serve.
The signing adds to IHG’s expansion in the country. The company currently operates 10 hotels in Egypt and has 28 more in its pipeline. That pipeline is nearly three times the size of the current portfolio, which shows how much of IHG’s future growth in the region is tied to Egypt. The Crowne Plaza New Cairo will join that list of projects as construction moves toward the 2031 opening date.
