IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed two hotels in Tokyo, which marks the debut of its Noted Collection brand in Japan. One is a conversion in Shinjuku, and the other is a new build in Ginza. Each hotel has a different ownership partner. Noted Collection launched earlier this year as IHG’s 21st brand, aimed at independent properties with a story to tell.

Shinjuku Conversion Opens in 2027

The Shinjuku hotel has 207 keys and is located in the Kabukicho district, a short walk from Golden Gai. SC Capital Partners owns the property, which it acquired through its Japan Hospitality Fund. It is the first Noted Collection conversion signed in Japan. The hotel will be renovated and rebranded before it opens in 2027 with its own identity.

The lobby will connect to a restaurant and café area. The layout is meant to get guests moving between the spaces. Daisuke Hiramoto of SC Capital Partners said the firm saw a chance to improve the guest experience after the purchase. He said IHG’s scale and its ability to keep a hotel’s individual character made it the right partner.

Ginza Hotel Follows in 2029

The Ginza property will have 81 keys and is the first new-build Noted Collection signing in Japan. An Consulting is the ownership partner. The hotel is located in the Ginza 8-chome district, within walking distance of Shimbashi Station and Ginza Station and is scheduled to open in 2029. It will be IHG’s first hotel in Ginza.

Plans call for family-friendly suites along with a restaurant and bar and a fitness center. Amane Kotani, Representative Director of An Consulting, said the hotel is aimed at both domestic and international travelers. The design will draw on the character of the neighborhood. Ginza is known for its dining, luxury shopping, and cultural heritage.

What IHG Says About the Brand

Abhijay Sandilya, Managing Director for Japan and Micronesia at IHG and CEO of IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan, said owners want flexible brand options. He said they want to keep a hotel’s individuality while using IHG’s global scale, enterprise platform, and loyalty program. Noted Collection hotels also get access to IHG’s commercial platforms and the IHG One Rewards program. Sandilya described the two signings as a strong introduction to the premium segment in Japan. IHG plans to keep growing the brand across the country with like-minded owners.

Outside Japan, the brand already has other projects in its pipeline:

  • Theobalds Estate, Noted Collection by IHG, in the United Kingdom
  • Cantonal Hotel Riyadh Noted Collection by IHG, in Saudi Arabia
