Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel has completed a $50 million renovation, giving new looks to its guestrooms, restaurants, event spaces, and wellness facilities. The property originally opened in 1983 and was designed by hotel architect George Wimberley. Over four decades, it has hosted world leaders and celebrities, and it has been part of Bangkok’s growth as a major travel destination. The work follows the brand’s guiding line, “Transformed. Timeless. Thai.”
Rooms and Suites
All 335 guestrooms, suites, and villas were redesigned. The categories include Deluxe Rooms, Siam Suites, Anantara Suites, and a Presidential Suite. Designers used teak wood, handcrafted details, and silk accents in a residential color palette. Bathrooms were updated with marble finishes, custom vanities, better lighting, and new fittings.
Two additions stand out. The Anantara Garden Pool Suites and Villas sit within tropical gardens and have private pools plus indoor and outdoor living areas. The Jim Thompson Explorer Suite came out of a partnership with the Thai silk brand and takes its cue from a Thai summer home. It has two bedrooms, polished teak floors, painted paneled walls, an open-plan living and dining area, and a private library.
The hotel kept a 100-meter hand-painted mural above the lobby. Paiboon Suwannakudt, a well-known Thai muralist, painted it to mark the 200th anniversary of the current reigning dynasty. Nineteen ceiling panels above the lobby show the “Heavens in Thai Thought.” The hotel says the mural was preserved as a tribute to the artist, and it remains one of the property’s best-known features.
Dining, Events, and Wellness
The hotel has nine restaurants and bars. Spice Market serves Thai food, while Biscotti focuses on Italian cuisine. Other options include:
- Shintaro for Japanese dining
- Madison Steak Avenue for steaks
- Guilty Bangkok for South American cuisine
- Aqua Bar, listed among Asia’s 50 Best Bars, for cocktails in a garden setting
- Mocha & Muffins for pastries, cakes, and coffee
Afternoon tea is served at The Lobby, and The Garden Terrace offers drinks and light bites by the pool.
The Grand Ballroom, meeting rooms, and other event spaces were redesigned for conferences, weddings, and gala dinners. The venues combine Thai design with current technology. The hotel is aiming at both business and social events, from large international gatherings to small celebrations.
Anantara Spa has been fully redone and continues to offer treatments based on traditional Thai healing methods. The Siam Sports Club now has a fitness center equipped by Technogym and a Pilates studio. Outdoors, guests can use a Muay Thai boxing ring, a rock-climbing wall, and a functional training zone. The hotel says these additions support a broader focus on wellbeing for all kinds of travelers.
