Marriott’s Moxy Hotels brand is opening its first property in Niseko, Japan’s best-known destination for powder skiing. Moxy Niseko Village sits right next to the Niseko Village Gondola, giving guests direct ski-in/ski-out access to the mountain. The hotel will have 310 guest rooms and signal Moxy’s debut in Japan’s alpine resort market, as well as its fifth location in the country overall, joining existing hotels in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto.
The interior design draws inspiration from Hokkaido’s natural surroundings while mixing in Moxy’s usual bold, playful style. The look combines Japanese craft traditions with pop culture references, including Kawaii-inspired colors and nostalgic objects tied to both Japanese heritage and the local mountain landscape. The rooms themselves are built to be compact but functional.
A Social Hub Built Around the Bar
At the center of the hotel is Moxy Bar, which doubles as the check-in desk and the main social space. Guests can check in, get a drink, and settle in without much separation between arrival and downtime. Moxy Bar & Cafe extends that idea further into the day, offering breakfast in the morning and casual food and drinks later on, while Moxy Grab & Go covers guests who want something quick between activities.
The hotel also includes a 24-hour fitness center called Moxy Gym, aimed at guests keeping up a workout routine or building endurance for skiing. Outside, there is a foot onsen meant to help with sore muscles after a day outdoors. These additions reflect an attempt to keep guests moving between activity and rest without needing to leave the property.
Built for Every Season, Not Just Winter
Although skiing is the main draw, Niseko Village promotes itself as a year-round destination, and the hotel is positioned accordingly. In the warmer months, guests have access to hiking, cycling, and golf nearby, alongside the resort’s usual winter sports lineup during ski season. The hotel sits at the base of Mount Niseko Annupuri, close to additional dining, shopping, and onsen options in the surrounding area.
Getting there is relatively straightforward. New Chitose International Airport is about two hours away, JR Niseko Station is a 10-minute trip, and JR Kutchan Station is roughly 20 minutes out. The hotel’s opening also lines up with a new eight-person gondola launching in December 2026, which will double the resort’s uplift capacity and open access to more than 30 kilometers of ski terrain.
Cristiano Rinaldi, Chief Lodging Product & Services Officer for Marriott International’s Asia Pacific region, said Niseko’s year-round appeal and global reputation made it a natural setting for the brand’s energetic, design-forward approach. Panch Ratnavale, who holds the title of Captain at Moxy Niseko Village, said the hotel aims to give guests a comfortable, well-connected base whether they come for the powder snow, the green season activities, or simply the wider appeal of Hokkaido.
