Accor and Indian partner InterGlobe have redirected their plans for growing a substantial hotel business in India, dropping a previously announced partnership with Treebo.
While unentangling the arrangement with Treebo, the pair are now instead planning to undertake a series of acquisitions. The Competition Commission of India has approved the merger of six businesses into the larger entity. These are named as AAPC India Hotel Management Private Limited, Caddie Hotels Private Limited, Triguna Hospitality Ventures (India) Private Limited, Srilanand Mansions Private Limited, Techpark Hotels Private Limited, and Accent Hotels Private Limited.
Challenging Negotiations
The result will be a more complete hotel operating and developing engine, with disciplines combined under one roof. As a consequence, Accor and InterGlobe will be expecting to accelerate the rollout of Accor branded hotels across India.
In a statement, Accor explained: “Accor, InterGlobe Hotels and Treebo have mutually agreed not to proceed with the proposed strategic partnership announced in April 2025. Following constructive discussions, the parties have decided not to proceed with the proposed transaction.” Treebo will continue on its own growth path, aiming to build to 2,000 hotels in the next five years in India’s economy segment.
Currently, Accor has around 75 hotels open and operating across various brands in India, with many more signed to its development pipeline. The group has just added another Fairmont luxury hotel to that list, with the signing of Fairmont Rishikesh. The 220 room hotel is expected to open in 2031, and will be delivered in partnership with local conglomerate Javi Group.
The new project joins a strong Indian pipeline for Fairmont, with Fairmont Agra opening later in 2026, and a hilltop property, Fairmont Shimla Fagu Resort following in 2027. Also in planning is Fairmont Goa Shiroda, a joint development that will also see the delivery of the adjacent Raffles Goa Shiroda in 2030.
Meantime, Accor and its lifestyle division Ennismore have plenty to plan for across India. Novotel hotels will be opening before the end of 2026 in Bhopal and Bhubaneswar, with Novotel Indore following in 2027. In Amritsar, the group will open a Pullman, and the Grand Mercure Amritsar Airport Road Hotel, during the first half of 2027.
Building Out the Accor Brands Across India
Ennismore has already committed to bring its Hoxton brand to several Indian cities. The 149 room The Hoxton, Bengaluru City is already well advanced, with a planned opening in late 2026. It also recently opened Roswyn, a Morgans Originals hotel, in Mumbai.
In the Jaipur region, there are plans to launch two Sofitel branded hotels, and the Grand Mercure Jaipur Kukas, a 160 room new build with 2028 opening date. The group’s lower tier staple, Ibis, is also on the slate, with projects in the Indore Super Corridor, Trupati, and at Bengaluru Airport. Often, these Ibis hotels open alongside a co-located Novotel, providing guests with broader choice, while maintaining operating efficiencies.
