Holiday Inn grows its Japan presence with all-season Karuizawa retreat and upcoming city hotels

IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the opening of ANA Holiday Inn Resort Karuizawa, the first major internationally branded hotel in the local prefecture. This launch strengthens IHG’s portfolio in Japan, following the April 2025 debut of ANA Holiday Inn Tokyo Bay and ahead of Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park, which opens on 1 October 2025.

New all-season resort in Kita-Karuizawa

Located at an elevation of 1,300 meters at the foot of Mount Asama, the new resort offers year-round experiences in a natural setting. With 102 guestrooms and suites, including Kids Suites, Family Suites, and a Dog-Friendly Cottage, the property caters to a wide variety of guests. Many rooms feature large windows with panoramic views of Mount Asama.

The resort connects directly to the new Nature Hills Karuizawa Country Club and features multiple facilities designed for both relaxation and activity, including:

  • An 18-hole golf course
  • Natural hot springs
  • Indoor pool
  • Fitness gym
  • Kids’ room

Growing Holiday Inn portfolio in Japan

Alongside the Karuizawa opening, IHG’s Holiday Inn brand continues its expansion in Japan. ANA Holiday Inn Tokyo Bay, which opened in April 2025, offers 132 guestrooms with waterfront views of Tokyo Bay and features The Library Lounge, housing over 25,000 books and manga. The lounge also provides buffet breakfasts, light snacks, and drinks.

On 1 October 2025, Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park will become the second Holiday Inn & Suites property in Japan, adding further variety to IHG’s offerings. Currently, IHG operates 55 hotels across 10 brands in the country, which includes 12 Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Resort properties.

Room rates at ANA Holiday Inn Resort Karuizawa start from JPY 22,500 per night.
