On July 1st, Leonardo Hotels expanded its presence in Hanover by acquiring two hotels from Essendi

Leonardo Hotels has expanded its footprint in northern Germany with the acquisition of two properties in Hanover from Essendi. The hotels, located in the heart of the Hannover Medical Park, will be rebranded as the new Leonardo Hannover Medical Park.

This strategic location—an important hub for healthcare, business, and research—will cater to business travelers, conference guests, and international visitors. The combined property will feature 208 rooms, merging 112 rooms from the former Mercure Hotel and 96 rooms from the Ibis Hotel. The Mercure section will reopen in July 2025, while the ibis portion will undergo renovations and relaunch in Q4 2025.

“This strategic move sends out a clear signal in Hanover and across the wider region. We are strengthening our local presence and underlining our long-term commitment to the German market,” said Yoram Biton, Managing Director Central Europe at Leonardo Hotels.

Enhanced amenities and MICE offerings

The rebranded property will offer a broad range of amenities designed to appeal to both leisure and business guests:

  • 208 renovated guest rooms
  • Restaurants, bars, and a lounge with a billiards area
  • Outdoor terrace with swimming pool
  • Fully equipped gym
  • Seven modern meeting rooms spanning 381 square meters (4,101 square feet)
  • Conference capacity for up to 140 guests

With this addition, Leonardo Hotels now operates three properties in Hanover, offering nearly 30 meeting spaces across the city.

Leonardo Hotels continues its national expansion with the upcoming Leonardo Mainz, set to open in August 2025, and the recent addition of Badischer Hof Baden-Baden to its Leonardo Limited Edition collection as of May 1st.
