Our latest Project of the Week brings us to Western China with the upcoming Wyndham Grand Tianshui, expected to be a visually striking new property in the heart of Maiji New Town, Tianshui City, Gansu Province.
Luxury hospitality arrives in Tianshui
Located just 3.7 kilometers (2.3 miles) from Tianshui Maijishan Airport and 4.8 kilometers (2.9 miles) from Tianshui South Railway Station, this new luxury hotel by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts will immerse guests in the region’s rich cultural history and natural landscape.
Wyndham Grand Tianshui spans approximately 20,770 square meters (223,566 square feet) and plans to offer guests both short-term stays and long-term resident options. The hotel will feature 264 elegantly designed guest rooms, each reflecting a blend of modern comfort and cultural heritage. Guests will be able to experience varied amenities, refined accommodations, and a connection to the cultural story of Tianshui—one of China’s oldest cities with a rich history along the ancient Silk Road.
The architectural vision, led by Shaanxi Tongji Architectural Design Civil Engineering Co., Ltd, draws inspiration from traditional Chinese courtyard homes—specifically the local “Hu family residence”—to create a poetic and enclosed layout. At the heart of the property lies a central water garden, reflecting the hotel’s design principle of harmony between nature and structure. The site plan follows Feng Shui philosophies, with a layout that backs against the mountain and faces the water, providing a serene and balanced environment.
From concept to recognition: A Gold Award winner
The design of Wyndham Grand Tianshui combines natural stone curtain walls with bronze metal grating. The project has already gained international recognition with the Gold Award in the Hospitality Architecture (Under Construction) category at the Global Future Design Awards 2023.
As of today, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has a portfolio of approximately 9,300 hotels in over 95 countries across six continents. With around 903,000 rooms, the company focuses on serving everyday travelers, particularly in the economy and midscale segments.
