Accor is strengthening its presence in Italy with the signing of a new franchising agreement with PPN Hospitality.

The deal will see Grand Hotel della Posta in Sondrio become part of the Handwritten Collection brand from April 2024.

Rebranding work

The hotel is a historic building located in the centre of Sondrio, between the Alps and Lake Como in the heart of Valtellina, and Accor believes it embodies the collector’s style of the Handwritten Collection brand.

Following refurbishment, the property will offer its guests 38 rooms, the 1862 Ristorante della Posta eatery, the Felix Café, seven meeting rooms, a spa and a fitness centre.

Hospitality benchmark

Filippo Cavandoli, CEO and founder PPN Hospitality, said: “Grand Hotel della Posta is a benchmark for hospitality in Valtellina.

“We are confident that joining the Handwritten Collection, as part of a customised portfolio of Accor, a world leader in the hospitality sector, will give the hotel and the destination the visibility and enhancement it deserves, attracting Italian and international tourists thanks to its excellent location and unique personality.”

Sustainable conversion

Accor’s senior director of development for Italy, Greece and Malta, Ettore Cavallino, added: “The Accor group’s strategy is based on sustainability and the conversion of existing structures: enhancing what you have is not only good for the environment but benefits the whole community in terms of jobs and support for the area.

“Thanks to the collaboration and mutual trust with our partner PPN Hospitality, we can bring an international hospitality brand to Valtellina and I am sure that the combination of this extraordinary destination with the charm of the Handwritten Collection brand will make the new hotel a place full of history and charm, all year round, for every guest.”

European prospects

Launched in early 2023, with a tailor-made approach, the Handwritten Collection brings together establishments with unique personalities that reflect the character and warmth of their owners.

The brand began its Italian account with Relais San Martino in Lecce, which opened this summer, with Grand Hotel della Posta becoming the line’s second site in this country.

Elsewhere in Europe, Sol Hotel in Spain’s capital Madrid will join the collection in Q3 2024; while two French projects on the slate number the 305-key Paris Montmartre Sacre Coeur and the 50-key Square Lodge Hotel La Roche sur Yon, both due to complete rebranding in Q1 2024.
