Marriott International is swapping branding within its portfolio for a well-known resort in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

La Concha Resort was part of Marriott’s Renaissance Hotels group for 15 years, but will now be joining the luxury Autograph Collection.

Multi-million refresh

The site will soon undergo a US$45 million renovation of 238 ocean front suites as well as new additions to its offerings and amenities, in order to become La Concha Resort, Autograph Collection.

Works will include the construction of a new five-star spa and renovations to the Beach Club. The hotel will also be the home of Tekka Bar, a high-end sushi restaurant concept by renowned Las Vegas restaurateur Takashi Segawa. An exciting new restaurant will also be coming to the iconic Perla shell-shaped space.

Autograph first

This will be the first Autograph Collection Resort in Puerto Rico. Featuring 473 rooms and suites, La Concha Resort offers tropical modernism and a range of amenities, showcasing panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Among its main attractions are the Casino del Mar, which features the newly-built BetMGM Sportsbook, the first of its kind in Puerto Rico, and Fifty Eight Club. The hotel was originally constructed in 1958, then renovated and reopened in 2007.

New levels of luxury

Paulson Puerto Rico owns and operates the hotel. John Paulson, president of Paulson & Co, said: “La Concha Resort has had a long-standing relationship with Marriott. Joining Marriott’s Autograph Collection is a huge step forward in La Concha’s legacy as one of Puerto Rico’s premier hotels.

“With this partnership, our guests will enjoy new levels of luxury and an enhanced guest experience.”

Upcoming additions

The Autograph Collection is part of Marriott’s ‘distinctive premium’ tier of hotels. It includes over 270 independent hotels and resorts located in some of the world’s most desirable destinations spread out across more than 45 countries and territories.

Upcoming additions to the line include Anichi Resort and Spa, a 120-key site due to complete on the island of Dominica in Q4 this year; in the same quarter, the 130-room Hotel Dos Santos is scheduled to come online in Playa del Carmen, Mexico; and in 2025 the 283-key Autograph Collection Curacao is due to open in Willemstad on the Caribbean island.
