Ascott introduces Citadines to Djibouti

The Ascott Limited will launch its first property in Djibouti and 12th in Africa by entering into a partnership with local real estate group, Salaam Properties.

Citadines City Centre Djibouti is set to open in 2024 as part of the group’s Citadines aparthotel brand.

Accommodation range

Housing 83 units, Citadines City Centre Djibouti will feature studio-, one- and two-bedroom apartments. Amenities will include a gymnasium, meeting rooms, a residents’ lounge and a restaurant.

The new property will introduce Djiboutian residents and visitors to Ascott’s aparthotel concept, complementing the lodging owner-operator’s existing hotel apartment offerings in the African subcontinent, including Nairobi.

Hotel apartment demand

Fatima Zahra Muhammad, general manager at Salaam Properties, commented: “We are delighted to partner with Ascott, the global expert in the extended stay and serviced apartments segment of the hospitality sector, to introduce the first Citadines in Djibouti.

“Djibouti has a tremendous need for hotel apartments with international standards to meet the business travellers’ growing demand, and Salaam Properties is poised through its strategic alliance with Ascott, to further enhance the hospitality offerings within the city.”

Popular brand

Vincent Miccolis, MD for Middle East, Africa, Turkey and India at The Ascott Limited, added: “We are delighted to partner with Salaam Properties to introduce our award-winning Citadines brand to the dynamic and evolving hospitality landscape in Djibouti.

“Citadines is one of our most popular brands amongst vibrant travellers across the world, offering guests the flexibility and practicality of a serviced apartment with hotel services and locally influenced experiences. We are confident that Citadines City Centre Djibouti will become a highly sought-after destination for both global and local travellers.”

Elsewhere in Africa, the Citadines brand has an active pipeline of aparthotels. In neighbouring Ethiopia, Citadines Bole Addis Ababa is taking shape in the capital city. The 137-key site will offer studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments as well as facilities including a gymnasium, a residents’ lounge and a restaurant. Completion is scheduled for Q2 2025.

Meanwhile in west Africa, the 157-room Citadines PurpleLekki Lagos is taking shape in the Nigerian capital ready for a Q4 2023 delivery, while Cameroonian capital Yaoundé will welcome the 150-key Citadines City Centre Yaounde in 2024.
