The Slate Denver, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, is now open in the Mile High City.
Located on a former school site, the property offers a school-inspired hospitality experience.
An historic location
The upscale Slate Denver hotel is welcoming its first guests into a site once occupied by the historic Emily Griffith Opportunity School in a prime location across the street from Colorado Convention Center.
This location also places guests close to Denver Art Museum, Denver Botanic Gardens and Meow Wolf: Convergence Station, among other sites.
The four-storey hotel is now home to 251 rooms and guests along with amenities including a restaurant, bar and lounge, as well as inspired meeting space.
“It’s been exciting to oversee the revitalisation of this historic property, and we are honoured to have helped launch The Slate Hotel,” said Navin Dimond, founder, CEO and chairman of Stonebridge Companies.
“Stonebridge has been part of the Denver community for more than 30 years now, and with the hotel’s opening, we pay tribute to the Mile High City’s past, present and future.”
Kirby Kiner, general manager of The Slate Denver, added: “We’re beyond thrilled to welcome our first guests and introduce downtown Denver to a revitalised piece of the city’s history.”
“Since the project’s inception, we’ve worked hard to maintain the integrity of the hotel’s foundation to honour the legacy of the Emily Griffith Opportunity School and its vast impact on generations of Denver residents.”
“In time for Teacher Appreciation Month, we, and our longtime partner Hilton, couldn’t think of a better time to open our doors and invite guests into our re-invented schoolhouse.”
School-inspired amenities and design
The former school this hotel is located within was set up by education pioneer Emily Griffith to create opportunities for people of all ages and races.
The hotel honours these origins with its school-themed design incorporating typewriter artwork and original school staircases and hallways.
The hotel’s restaurant, Teachers’ Lounge Food + Drink, offers chef Michael Poompan’s contemporary take on classic local dishes using locally sourced produce. The property’s adjacent restaurant and retail block, Emily’s Alley, will be the setting for seasonal activities such as farmers’ markets and music performances.
Events and meetings will be hosted in 4,500 sq ft of event space including the Assembly, 1916 Boardroom, Library and Study Hall areas with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment and high-speed Wi-Fi. Patio seating and private salon space is also available.
