This exciting development by IHG’s luxury brand in the Big Apple, which brings together the talents of a stellar design team, has scooped our latest Project of the Week title.

The forthcoming hotel is already turning plenty of heads in one of the world’s most competitive hospitality markets.

An architecturally striking setting

Expected to open in early 2023, the under-construction Six Senses New York is fast taking shape in the east tower of the architecturally striking twin-tower XI development by architect Bjarke Ingels, founder of design practice BIG.

Distinguished by its twisting form, this impressive scheme rises above the Hudson River and the High Line in Manhattan from its location on a full city block of West Chelsea. Occupying ten floors of No X, the hotel is promising a transformational experience that’s rooted in immersive wellbeing.

Complementing its striking architectural setting, the interiors of Six Senses New York are being designed by Gilles & Boissier, while Gabellini Sheppard is working on the interiors of the west tower and the amenities podium. Enea Garden Design NY is responsible for the landscape design.

Inside the hotel, guests can expect to find natural materials and neutral tones from light wooden floors to charred wood accent walls and stonework. Local artisans are expressing their personal take on Manhattan through individual artworks, and large asymmetrical walnut doors will greet guests at the entrance.

A holistic wellness experience

On opening, the hotel will accommodate travellers across 137 guestrooms and suites, along with a restaurant just off the High Line and a café with outdoor terrace.

Hotel guests, as well as residential owners and local club members, will have access to 45,000 sq ft of wellness space promising to deliver some of the most pioneering wellness programming in the world and a spa with amenities like a vibroacoustic meditation dome, a bathhouse, a magnesium pool, the Holistic Anti-Aging Center, a fitness centre and a yoga studio.

These wellness amenities will be complemented by a number of social spaces, including cafés, juice bars, a restaurant, and coworking and lounge areas. The club roof will double as an organic vegetable patch and social area with a dance floor.

In line with Six Senses’ philosophy, this hotel’s operations will reflect the brand’s commitment to sustainability. The property is being developed by HFZ Capital.
