The Spanish capital bears the distinction of hosting the inaugural European property for the Tapestry Collection by Hilton brand, the 46-room Atocha Hotel Madrid.

Now open to the public, Atocha Hotel Madrid is the latest addition to Tapestry Collection’s portfolio of original hotels in the world’s most desirable destinations.

Tapestry Collection lands in Europe

As Europe begins to reopen its borders following the immense disruption caused by Covid19, Hilton Worldwide is hoping to get in on the action by launching a new hotel under its Tapestry Collection by Hilton flag. Atocha Hotel Madrid is the first European outpost for the brand, which already has a significant footprint in North America.

Simon Vincent, executive vice president and president of EMEA for Hilton, said: “This summer marks the arrival of Tapestry Collection by Hilton, our newest brand in Europe. With stunning new properties planned in Spain, France, Portugal and the UK, adventurous travellers can enjoy unique experiences across some of the most iconic cities in Europe. The hotels are among 40 new openings under Hilton brands planned in Europe before the end of the year, and we’re looking forward to welcoming guests as international travel resumes.”

Atocha Hotel Madrid draws inspiration from grass-weaving

The 45-key Atocha Hotel Madrid takes its name from the traditional esparto- or atocha- grass-weaving technique used to make baskets in the south of the country. The trade route for esparto goods formerly came through Madrid Atocha railway station – historically viewed as Madrid’s ‘Southern Gate’.

The hotel weaves in references to this history by using natural materials in its decor and furnishings, and by offering guests a welcome gift in the form of a personalised and handmade esparto plant.

Atocha Hotel Madrid acts as an ideal base for visitors to the Spanish capital, who can explore the nearby sights and sounds of the city, including Madrid’s Golden Triangle of Art – featuring the Museo Nacional del Prado, Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía – as well as Palacio de Cristal del Retiro, Plaza Mayor and Palacio Real de Madrid.

Jenna Hackett, global brand head of Tapestry Collection by Hilton, said: “Bringing Tapestry Collection by Hilton to Europe is a true milestone for the brand and reinforces our commitment to international growth. With hotels each displaying a unique style and personality, Tapestry Collection has proved popular with travellers looking for an authentic experience that reflects the heritage and culture of the local area. We look forward to extending a warm welcome to guests in new locations across Europe this summer.”
