Hotel Indigo Sydney Centre to open in 2025

Plans have been unveiled to create a new Hotel Indigo property atop the historic City Tattersalls Club in the heart of Sydney.

Plans have been unveiled to create a new Hotel Indigo property atop the historic City Tattersalls Club in the heart of Sydney.

The forthcoming hotel will sit above City Tattersalls Club’s premises in a mixed-use tower reaching up to 49 storeys high. We look into what’s being planned.

A striking mixed-use development

On completion, the tower will house a 110-room hotel and 246 residential apartments, alongside restaurants, event space, retail, wellbeing facilities and an exclusive business lounge. The scheme also benefits from a prime location on Pitt Street’s frontage, just moments from Pitt Street Mall, the pedestrianised section of Sydney’s CBD and a popular location for dining, shopping and entertainment.

Guests of Hotel Indigo Sydney Centre will be able to make use of an onsite cafe, bar and gym, while also benefiting from access to the development’s other facilities.

“There’s something wonderful that happens when great brands come together, so it’s an honour for IHG to partner with one of Sydney’s oldest and most beloved business and sporting clubs to bring another amazing Hotel Indigo to Australasia,” said Abhijay Sandilya, IHG’s vice president for development in Australasia, Japan and Pacific.

The neighbourhood story

The 125-year history of City Tattersalls Club will provide inspiration for the new hotel’s ‘neighbourhood story’ concept. Indeed, Hotel Indigo plans to fully embrace the community club’s tale of being founded by 25 bookmakers in 1895 and growing to encompass more than 20,000 members today.

“It’s clear that our boutique neighbourhood brand has truly resonated with guests and owners, and I’m looking forward to seeing how City Tattersalls Club’s rich history plays into the neighbourhood story to create a spectacular hotel,” said Sandilya. “With a perfect location in the very heart of Sydney and the development’s fantastic facilities, Hotel Indigo Sydney Centre will undoubtedly become a favourite destination for business and leisure guests alike.”

“When we made the decision to open a hotel as part of our exciting new development, we knew it would not only need to be a brand that would do justice to the history of the City Tattersalls Club legacy, it would need the power of a global system behind it as travel ramps up again in 2021,” said Marcelo Veloz, chief executive officer at City Tattersalls. “After months of assessing hotel brands, we resolved that Hotel Indigo was the perfect brand for our club and the CBD and we look forward to developing a successful partnership with IHG in the years ahead.”

As a brand, Hotel Indigo has shown rapid growth over recent years. The brand currently encompasses 126 open properties across the globe, with another 99 in the pipeline.

March 2021 will see the opening of Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets. In the Australasia market, this will be followed by properties in several other destinations, including Melbourne and Auckland.
