An impressive team, including the likes of Antirion SGR, Colliers International, Jacobs and Bar Studio, is coming together to bring Rosewood Hotels & Resorts to Italy’s capital.

Real-estate firm Antirion SGR has appointed Rosewood Hotels & Resorts to manage a new ultra-luxury property in the heart of Rome. We find out what’s in store.

A privileged setting

Set to open in 2023, Rosewood Rome will extend across an entire block, spanning three buildings constructed in the early 1900s.

Star billing goes to the former Banca Nazionale del Lavoro headquarters, originally designed by the renowned Italian architect and urban planner Marcello Piacentini. The site’s transformation will be managed by Colliers International, and led by architecture and engineering firm Jacobs and interior design firm Bar Studio – together, they aim to honour the property’s Italian modernist roots.

“Over the last several years, we have been searching for the right opportunities to evolve our European footprint and bring the Rosewood brand to new corners of the continent,” said Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group. “As one of Italy’s most vibrant cities with an undoubtedly rich legacy and charming character, Rome has long been at the top of the list of priority destinations in which to set the Rosewood flag, and we’re thrilled to be working with our partners at Antirion SGR on this project that will surely set a new standard for luxury lifestyle experiences in Rome.”

“We are honoured to embark on this exciting project with Rosewood Hotels & Resorts,” added Ofer Arbib, CEO of Antirion SGR. “We could not think of a more suited partner to create a new world-renowned destination that celebrates the heritage and rich offerings of Rome while simultaneously extending a sophisticated interpretation of ultra-luxury hospitality.”

A Sense of Place

The design will take inspiration from the hotel’s location on Via Veneto, famously featured in the Federico Fellini film La Dolce Vite, with interiors fusing contemporary amenities with timeless style. Keeping the Rosewood brand’s A Sense of Place philosophy in mind, the property will draw on Rome’s dedication to dolce far niente – the art of doing nothing. Expect to see traditional architectural elements alongside modern decor and detailing throughout.

Altogether, the hotel will comprise 157 guest rooms, including 44 suites, as well as a contemporary Italian bistro, a lobby bar and cafe, and a rooftop bar with a terrace providing views over the city. These dining outlets will be joined by three meeting rooms and a grand ballroom for events, as well as a modern Roman bathhouse in the bank’s original vault and Sense, A Rosewood Spa on the rooftop; the spa will encompass four treatment rooms and a wellness terrace with reflecting pool and fitness centre.

Rosewood Rome is set to become the brand’s fourth Italian hotel, following on from Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany, the 2022-opening Rosewood Porto Cervo and the 2023-opening Rosewood Venice. There are now 11 Rosewood properties in the pipeline across Europe.
