A prominent hotel in Monterey, California has completed a major revamp with the help of design experts at RoseBernard Studio.

Portola Hotel & Spa, one of the first US Green Building Council LEED Certified hotels on California’s Central Coast, has reopened following a multimillion-dollar renovation project. We find out more.

Updated facilities across the property

All 379 rooms and suites at Portola Hotel & Spa have been renovated to include the latest comforts and enhancements.

Many new in-room features were directly influenced by guest feedback, including double-pane windows or sliding-glass doors and air conditioning. The refreshed accommodation also boasts headboards with built-in lights and USB outlets, ceiling fans and bespoke artwork – as well as bathroom upgrades in the Presidential and Executive Floor Suites.

A nod to local history and style

All rooms now incorporate beautiful wall coverings and contemporary furniture whose colours reflect the local landscape and history. The guestroom design created by RoseBernard Studio involves patterns and hues that recall Monterey’s Hispanic roots and the region’s earliest settlers. Today, the property’s design evokes the area’s natural beauty and honours the coastal city’s history, all while meeting the demands of today’s travellers.

“Renovating the guest rooms and suites ties into the hotel lobby and restaurant, Jacks Monterey’s revitalised look. Evoking the breathtaking tones and colour palette of the coastline throughout the hotel provides a relaxing oasis for our guests to escape to after exploring Monterey,” said Janine Chicourrat, managing director, Portola Hotel & Spa.

“Our studio loved the collaboration and shared passion we had with our client for the property. Telling unique stories through design, connecting the guest with the beauty and rich history of Monterey, was the goal for the project,” added Rob Polacek, partner and creative director, RoseBernard Studio.
