Our latest Project of the Week is an exceptional resort in the fishing village of Salamansa in Cabo Verde, which is due to launch in late 2021.
First announced in July 2016, this 315-room newbuild will bolster Meliá Hotels International’s presence on the tourist-friendly archipelago. We find out what to expect from the eye-catching scheme.
An enviable setting
Located in São Vicente, one of the westernmost islands in Cabo Verde, Meliá Salamansa will place guests within easy reach of Cesaria Evora International Airport and just ten minutes away from the island capital of Mindelo.
The stylish new beachfront hotel will come with a luxurious spa featuring no fewer than six swimming pools, a water sports centre, shops, a leisure and entertainment area, and four different restaurants. Spanish firm HCP Architecture & Engineering is behind the resort’s architectural design and Alvaro Sans Arquitectura Hotelera is in charge of designing the interiors.
A welcome addition to the archipelago
The project is being led by the developer ITS Imobiliaria Turistica de Salamansa, a private Cabo Verde company that endeavours to promote infrastructural development in the STZ. This coastal area, which is owned by ITS, spans 570 hectares of land between Baia de Salamansa and Baia das Gatas.
As the fifth Cabo Verde property in the Meliá Hotels International portfolio, this opening will bring the total number of rooms the hotel group is managing here to well over 3,000. Once it’s open, the hotel will be operated under the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand.
