Le Guanahani St Barth, which has been closed since 2017 due to the impact of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, will reopen next year under the prestigious Rosewood Hotels & Resorts flag.
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has been appointed to manage Le Guanahani St Barth, which is set to reopen in the spring of 2021 following an extensive restoration process. We find out more about this celebrated property’s rebirth.
Redefining luxury at Le Guanahani
When it finally returns, Rosewood Le Guanahani St Barth will boast 66 completely renovated villas, suites, and guest rooms, many of which now come with private pools. It will be the island’s only full-service resort.
The property will also offer an extensive array of updated amenities, including a beachfront dining concept and pool, a Rosewood Explorers children’s club, event spaces, a tennis court, a fitness centre, and Sense, A Rosewood Spa.
“A legendary resort cherished for its rich offerings, memorable service and captivating landscape, Le Guanahani is a jewel within the Caribbean and an idyllic destination for Rosewood’s affluent explorers,” said Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group.
“We are honoured to steward Rosewood Le Guanahani as it sets a new standard of luxury on St Barth and around the world.”
A luxurious haven
Spread out over 18 lush and secluded acres on a private peninsula, Le Guanahani overlooks the stunning beaches of Marigot Bay and the reef-protected lagoon Grand Cul-de-Sac. This unparalleled location by the sea and only a few steps from the vibrant downtown made Le Guanahani a success among both families and couples wishing to enjoy St Barth’s chic ambience from the day of its opening in 1986.
The resort’s stunning architecture by David M Schwarz Architects and unique interior design by Luis Pons Design Lab underscores the island’s rich and authentic French Caribbean heritage of the island. In addition, its signature colourful style features vibrant hues of turquoise inspired by the Caribbean water, yellow reflecting the tropical sun and lavender recalling the south of France.
New brand, same leadership
Martein van Wagenberg, who has managed the property for the last six years, will continue to serve as its managing director. For van Wagenberg, this marks a return to Rosewood, where he previously held the same position at Rosewood Little Dix Bay and Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Resort.
“For over 30 years Le Guanahani has been renowned for its unique guest experiences and sustainable approach to hospitality – a true reflection of the destination,” said van Wagenberg. “Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is the perfect partner and one that shares our core values through their A Sense of Place philosophy, demonstrated through an unwavering commitment to our associates and community.”
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for the Le Guanahani team to join Rosewood’s global network and stand alongside sister properties such as the iconic Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel in Paris, Las Ventanas al Paraíso in Los Cabos and The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel, in New York City. We are delighted to launch a new chapter of Le Guanahani’s storied legacy with Rosewood by our side.”
Established in 1979, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has been welcoming guests to a world of refinement and sophisticated travel for over three decades.
