LHG’s revised aparthotel scheme in Tooting secures green light

London Hotel Group has been awarded planning consent to extend the footprint of its proposed aparthotel in south London.

London Hotel Group’s (LHG’s) forthcoming aparthotel scheme in Tooting, London, is set to get even bigger after planning permission was granted for a significant expansion of the consented scheme. The new plans involve reworking an adjacent property as well as the existing site. We find out more.

Bigger is better for LHG in Tooting

London Hotel Group’s original scheme proposed the development of an aparthotel at 111-113 Tooting High Street, and this revised permission grants it the ability to transform 101A Tooting High Street as well. This additional site, formerly home to the Tooting Constitutional Club, will allow the group to enhance the scheme’s facilities, with increased capacity in ground-floor common areas, alongside expanded and improved amenities in the club space. Both schemes were created by hospitality design studio Dexter Moren Associates (DMA).

London aparthotel plan revisited by DMA

DMA revised its design for the aparthotel to accommodate the extension, and this involved reworking the façade so that it would tie in more neatly with the surrounding area. The floor-to-ceiling height has also been tweaked, so that the double-height windows on the facade respect the scale of the area, while the overall building heights and massing have been adjusted so that the building rises in tiers from three to six storeys.

The aparthotel will encompass 373 guest rooms spread across six floors, and the additional space will allow for a more active frontage of the ground-floor restaurant and bar onto the high street. The new consent also provides expanded community facilities in the basement, which will be accessible to the public, and improved green and outdoor areas, also for public use.

Dexter Moren Associate partner Herbert Lui said: “I am pleased to have worked with Meher to help deliver LHG’s vision for an enhanced solution to this project; incorporating the adjacent site to create a unified design which improved the setting of the neighbouring listed buildings.

“Working to LHG’s new brief for the project has also given us the opportunity to revisit the façade design to create a design that is more complementary to the neighbourhood. The recently consented scheme has an improved public access to the outdoor amenity space to the rear and we are pleased that the existing clubhouse is sympathetically integrated with the outdoor amenity and the hotel.”
