No thanks to COVID-19, Playa del Carmen’s Spongebob Squarepants-inspired hotel in the Riviera Maya will only open in 2021.

A Nickelodeon property in the Riviera Maya will not welcome guests this year as planned after it was announced that the hotel’s opening will be pushed back until 2021. We find out more.

Spongebob in Mexico

A Spongebob Squarepants-themed hotel on the Riviera Maya on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula will not open to the public this year, following an announcement by the operators that the launch will now be postponed until 2021. The cartoon-oriented hotel is part of Nickelodeon’s roster of properties and comes under the umbrella of the Karisma hotel group’s portfolio.

Located between the holiday hotspots of Cancun and Puerto Morelos, the Nickelodeon Resorts and Hotels property is envisaged as a fun, engaging and lively experience for all the family, with particular attention paid to keeping kids entertained with some of their favourite cartoon characters from the popular Nickelodeon series.

All-inclusive cartoon-filled fun

Kids and adults alike will be kept busy and entertained by the cast of characters that roam the grounds of the hotel, constantly chatting and having fun with guests. The proposed resort is an all-inclusive offering, boasting spa and wellness facilities for adults to relax and rejuvenate in, as well as bearing the distinction of having the region’s biggest water adventure park onsite. This waterpark will span an incredible 46,461 sq m, featuring swimming pools, slides, games areas and splash pools.

A sister property is being planned for Cartagena in Colombia, marking the first time that the Karisma hotel group has made a foray into this particular South American market.

Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts are the first five-star family destinations dedicated to infinite play and limitless luxury.
