edyn signs an agreement to bring Denmark’s first Locke-branded venture to Copenhagen.

A new Locke aparthotel is to be housed within Copenhagen’s Postbyen mixed-use development.

Set to open in 2024, the development will mark the first Locke property in Denmark. We find out more.

Locke comes to Copenhagen

A new 236-key Locke aparthotel will open in the Danish capital of Copenhagen in 2024, according to an announcement by edyn and Danica Pension, the partners in the development. The property will form part of the new multi-use development Postbyen, which has already broken ground.

This mixed-use complex will house an array of different accommodations and functions, including commercial offices, retail space, residential units, hospitality and entertainment facilities and F&B options within the hotels and at ground floor level. The development is intended to become a new city district and will be close to the capital’s riverside.

Stephen McCall, CEO at edyn, formerly known as SACO, spoke of the development, saying, “We are delighted to be bringing our unique lifestyle aparthotel concept to Copenhagen, where we see a growing demand from sophisticated modern travellers for the experiences offered by Locke. The opening in Copenhagen is part of our ambitious expansion plans across Europe and we look forward to bringing our guests and the local community together in this exciting space.”

In Locke step with the rest of Europe

The Copenhagen property will follow several other Locke developments currently under construction in destination cities across Europe such as London, Berlin, Dublin and Lisbon.

The appetite for this type of accommodation, which is split between self-contained studios and one-bed apartments right in the heart of the urban area, is only increasing, and so the aparthotel model is a solid bet for developers in these regions.

Copenhagen’s Locke property will be housed in two towers on the Postbyen site, and Robert V. S. Nellemann, head of property development at Danica Pension, elaborated on the place that the Locke offering will occupy in the development, saying, “We are excited about the new agreement, which means that Postbyen will be able to provide an attractive offering for people staying in Copenhagen and looking for a concept that is mindfully designed, flexible and welcoming. With the new apartments, we aim to combine high quality with the local ambience in the upcoming city district in Postbyen.”
