We take a sneak peek at this new hotel.
A luxury abode in downtown Sydney
Together with real estate developer Shanghai United, AccorHotels has undertaken a $120m project to construct the new 121-room Porter House Hotel in downtown Sydney. After only three years of construction, the property will be finalised by the end of 2020 and start welcoming guests in the first quarter of 2021.
Set in a 36-storey tower on the corner of Bathurst and 203 Castlereagh Streets, the new hotel will be part of a $380-million mixed-use development. Levels 1-9 of the towers will be occupied by the hotel while floors 10-34 will house 131 elegant residential units.
Chief Operating Officer for AccorHotels Pacific, Simon McGrath, said: “We are thrilled to develop a new strategic partnership with Shanghai United on this landmark development for Sydney’s CBD.”
“The Sydney hotel sector is the strongest in Australia with consistent occupancy levels in the mid-high 80% range and average rates growing sharply. This new MGallery by Sofitel hotel will stand to greatly benefit from the tourism and infrastructure boom we are currently seeing with projects such as the International Convention Centre and light rail development,” Mr McGrath elaborated.
The new Porter House Hotel, MGallery by Sofitel will complement Sydney’s Harbour Rocks Hotel and join a network of ten MGallery by Sofitel hotels across Australia and New Zealand and over 80 around the world.
Splendid design and local heritage
As is customary for MGallery properties, the Porter House Hotel worked with award-winning creatives to bring guests an unparalleled experience.
Candelapas & Associates architects handled the design of both the hotel and the apartments which will bring together the new-build tower and the heritage-listed 1870s Porter House beside it. The latter will be thoughtfully restored to maintain local cultural heritage.
While modern and equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the 121 rooms and suites are inspired by the heritage building’s design. Similar materials are used to create a sense of consistency. Polished metal accents, beautifully stitched leather and decorative tiles complete the look.
Luxurious amenities
To make guests feel at home and comfortable, the Porter House will provide facilities including a spacious lobby, a pool and fitness centre, two dining venues as well as bar. Here, local artists will get a chance to exhibit their work in regularly changing exhibits.
“A new boutique hotel such as this will provide both business and leisure travellers with a new luxury boutique experience in Sydney, whether they visit for conferences, events, cultural or sporting events. The Porter House Hotel, MGallery by Sofitel, is set in a prime position to take advantage of the brand’s growing global presence backed by AccorHotels’ powerful distribution, digital platforms and growing loyalty program,” concluded Mr McGrath.
MGallery is a collection of high-end hotels around the world. Each hotel showcases a unique personality and story, experienced by guests through its architecture, interior design and services.
