IHG Hotels & Resorts has added a Madrid hotel to its Vignette Collection brand. San Bernardo, Vignette Collection is expected to open in March 2028 with 67 rooms. The signing brings IHG’s open and pipeline Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio in Spain to 21 properties. The company’s numbers are current as of June 30, 2026.
A Heritage Building in Central Madrid
The hotel will be located on Calle de San Bernardo, close to Gran Vía. It will occupy a partially protected heritage office building. The redevelopment will keep key architectural features and add contemporary design and amenities. Those include an internal courtyard, an all-day dining venue, a lounge and bar, and fitness facilities.
San Bernardo 19 S.L. owns the property. Hotel Collection International, one of IHG’s largest franchisees in Spain, will operate it. Catella, a Spanish real estate advisory and investment management firm, consulted on the deal. Willemijn Geels, IHG’s Vice President of Development for Europe, described Madrid as one of the region’s most dynamic luxury hotel markets.
Spain as a Growth Market
Spain is one of IHG’s priority growth markets in Europe. The country ranks among the world’s most visited destinations. IHG also points to strong long-term investor confidence in the Spanish hotel sector. The company says the signing strengthens its presence in one of Spain’s most important gateway markets.
IHG’s Spanish portfolio spans ten brands across the Luxury & Lifestyle, Premium, Essentials, and Suites segments. Expansion is continuing in Madrid, Barcelona, Mallorca, Málaga, and Marbella. Recent Vignette Collection additions in the country include Finca Banyols in Mallorca, Casa del Compositor in Jerez, and Hacienda de la Vega in Carmona. San Bernardo follows those signings.
About Vignette Collection
Vignette Collection is IHG’s luxury conversion brand for one-of-a-kind hotels in urban and resort locations. It launched in 2021. Owners can keep their property’s identity, character, and name while using IHG’s global systems, distribution, and IHG One Rewards loyalty platform. The brand’s hallmarks include “Memorable Rituals” and “A Means for Good.”
The brand has passed the halfway point toward its original goal of 100 hotels within ten years of launch. Its European debut was Casa da Companhia in Porto, and it has since expanded into the UK, Hungary, Italy, France, Türkiye, and Spain. Recent additions include Canary Riverside Plaza in London and Esperança Hotel in Braga. Geels said Vignette Collection is “resonating strongly with owners who want to preserve what makes their hotels special.”
