Accor will complete more than 170 hotels this year, the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database indicates, including show-stopping schemes from the likes of Sofitel, Raffles and Fairmont.

Over the course of 2021, our research team expects Accor to finish 174 hotel projects comprising 36,812 rooms around the world. Here, we take a closer look at five of the French hospitality giant’s most important developments.

Sofitel Adelaide

Created under the Sofitel brand in partnership with developer Palumbo, this forthcoming Adelaide property promises five-star luxury in a sleek newbuild tower with interiors by P49 Deesign. The hotel is part of Palumbo’s 106 Currie Street development, a 32-storey tower that’s going to be the tallest residential development in South Australia. The tower will comprise 80 apartments, taking up the top eight floors, with the remainder of the building housing hotel accommodation and facilities.

Sofitel Adelaide, due to open in Q1 2021, will come with 250 guest rooms and suites, business facilities including meeting and conference rooms, and leisure facilities such as a restaurant, four bars, a ballroom, a swimming pool, a health and fitness centre and the signature Sofitel Lounge Club. The hotel’s culinary offering will pair the European influence of this French luxury hotel brand with top-quality South Australian wine and produce.

Raffles Udaipur, India

The luxury hotel brand behind heritage properties in locations such as Paris and Singapore is now set to enter Udaipur; together with the creation of Raffles Jaipur, this opening will mark the brand’s arrival into India. Known for its lavish royal residences, Udaipur feels like the perfect fit for the brand.

Developed through a partnership with Triton Hotels & Resorts, which will also be the management company, Accor is bringing this newbuild site to life on a 21-acre private island in Udai Sagar Lake. The palatial Raffles Udaipur is being designed by architectural practice Randolph Grey Design with interiors by P49 Deesign. The sumptuous property, which is yet to reveal details of its dining and leisure facilities, will open in Q2 2021.

MGallery Habita 79 Hotel & Spa, Italy

Boasting an extraordinary location, this new MGallery hotel will lie just 200 metres from the entrance to the Unesco World Heritage Site of Pompeii. Taking up a monumental early 20th century building, which has undergone an extensive renovation, the new hotel will combine a historic setting with the modern architectural design of Gnosis Progetti.

Once MGallery Habita 79 Hotel & Spa opens in Q1 2021, guests will be able to enjoy the ultra-contemporary rooftop, which commands views out over Pompeii’s archaeological site and Mount Vesuvius, and relax in bright, modern interiors housing 79 rooms and suites with tailor-made design. The hotel will encompass five modular meeting rooms, a spa and two dining venues: Campania restaurant Il Circolo and The Roof restaurant and lounge, offering fusion cuisine and cocktails.

Fairmont Saint Lucia at Sunset Bay

The new Fairmont resort in Saint Lucia brings a 120-key hotel and 40 private residential villas to 25 acres of land with 1,870 ft of beachfront on the south-west coast of this island in the Lesser Antilles. Located just a 20-minute journey from the international airport, this is to be the southernmost luxury resort on the island. Developed in partnership with GP Group JSC, the property’s expected to make its debut in the second quarter of 2021.

Fairmont Saint Lucia at Sunset Bay’s lowrise buildings, designed by WATG and Wimberly Interiors to fuse contemporary design with preservation of the natural environment, lie within verdant greenery backed by the island’s lush mountainscape. Indeed, the resort will provide ready access to the rainforest, waterfalls, the coast and the famous Piton Mountains. Luxury facilities at the scheme will include four restaurants and bars, a 9,000 sq ft Fairmont Spa, several pools, event space and a private marina with moorings for yachts.

21c Museum Hotel Des Moines

A newbuild property and the latest addition to Accor’s 21c Museum Hotels brand, 21c Museum Hotel Des Moines will be part of The Fifth, Mandelbaum Properties’ 40-storey multi-use development at Fifth Avenue and Walnut Street in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. This new hotel, designed by Deborah Berke Partners and SCB, aims to bring a new cultural and travel experience to the city through its contemporary art offering and stylish hospitality.

Just like with the brand’s other properties, the scheme’s museum will showcase a range of exhibitions, curated primarily from the 21c collection of paintings, photos, films, performance art and digital art; large-scale and interactive installations will feature throughout. Additional features within the 137-room hotel will include a chef-driven restaurant, full-service spa, 24-hour fitness centre with yoga studio and business centre. The opening is planned for late 2021.
