On the sidelines of TOPHOTELWORLDTOUR London 2019, Purdom spoke to TOPHOTELNEWS, sharing his outlook for the hotel industry in 2019, the potential impact of Brexit, and what he appreciates most about good hospitality practices.
Outlook for the hotel industry in 2019
Purdom: The hotel market is a very strong industry. It’s something that, the tourism is always going to happen. I think the outlook is good. As a company, we do a lot in the residential industry, which can tend to go up and down, but for 2019, I see a positive outlook. My personal feeling is, I don’t think Brexit is going to have too much effect on us. I think it’s a little bit of a hump in the road, and I think we’ll go on stronger, I think. The biggest thing is, no one knows what’s going to happen. And, as soon as that’s over, it’ll be happy days.
My most positive hotel experience
Purdom: I suppose, it’s a really general thing, but I just really appreciate decent customer service. One thing that really annoyed me one time was, when someone just never smiled. And then they got cross, because I didn’t give them a tip. But I just really appreciate someone who gives you good customer service. Sorry, it’s not something specific, but that’s my experience.
Thoughts on TOPHOTELWORLDTOUR London
Purdom: Yeah, the event today was really good. Some really good contacts, some really good connections, so yeah, all positive, I’d say.
Experience with using the TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION database
Purdom: We used it last year. This year we’re using it a lot more, and it’s really helpful, really detailed. And, the search engine mechanism is really useful. Being able to do various different filters, so yeah, that’s very positive. We’re still a reasonably young company, so we do a lot in the UK, but yeah, it’s really helped us. And, hopefully in the future as well.
