Mexico surely rang in 2017 on a high as they looked set to follow up a hugely successful 2016 with an even busier year to come. The Latin American country continues to attract tourists, who come for the tacos, tequila and variety of incredible coastlines. Whether you head to Oaxaca on the Pacific coast or Veracruz on the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico has something for everyone. The idyllic Yucutan peninsula has seen the most growth over the past number of years, with tourists flocking to enjoy its Caribbean sea, coral reefs and Mayan ruins. Baja California also draws a sizeable number of holidaymakers and Los Cabos remains popular with North Americans and, of course, celebrities.
Over 70 new luxury hotels and resorts are currently being built in the country, as TOPHOTELPROJECTS reports. Cancun and Playa Del Carmen continue to attract increasing levels of visitors, and hoteliers and developers are benefiting from this swell, allowing them to construct new hotels and resorts along the southern coast of the Yucutan.
Hyatt opened a 213 room boutique hotel, the Andaz Mayakoba Riviera Maya, near Playa del Carmen at the end of 2016, while the 136 St. Regis Kanai Resort is to open in the Riviera Maya in 2018. Mexico City will be home to the new 157 room Ritz Carlton Mexico City in 2019.
Mexico’s coastline, jungle and mountains offer distinct opportunities for development and mean that the range of hotel types on offer is second to none. Big hotel chains are located in the region, but smaller boutique hotels, eco-lodges, cabanas and beach houses are being seen in larger numbers, appealing to a variety of demographics.
