$14m renovation to convert Crowne Plaza Hamburg into new flagship [Infographic]
Business travellers’ wishes were taken into consideration as they’re the property’s main target
While the hotel is open to guests, the Crowne Plaza – City Alster is being renovated to catch it up to today’s travellers’ demands and make it a shining new flagship for the brand.
With the last renovation 17 years ago, the hotel no longer meets current requirements.
Today’s business travellers, the property’s main target market, are known to want plenty of space and facilities to work and some easy ways to experience the city and enjoy leisure time.
These wishes were taken into consideration and have led to several changes at the Crowne Plaza – City Alster.
Giving the Crowne Plaza – City Alster a new centre
Where a tree used to adorn the lobby, the “Atrium” is now the “heart of the hotel”, as hotel director Hannes Dreher calls it.
After the $14 million remodelling, “The Marketplace” with its large bar and an all-day dining concept will offer guests a vast area to relax and work. The variety of seating options make it a place to both hold a meeting or simply relax.
For larger meetings and events there will be seven new rooms from 20 to 208 sqm to choose from. “The Studio” and “The Forum” can be used for creative workshops or as a coworking space during the day and host private events in the evenings.
The building’s metamorphosis doesn’t stop here though. The 290 guest rooms are also undergoing a rejuvenating renovation which is due to be completed by September.
“There will be no big bells and whistles, the space in the respective rooms is used deliberately and will include a new work and sitting area,” explains the director.
Staying competitive in a changing market
The work taking place during everyday operations is a necessary evil and comes with a certain level of noise which can impact our events.
According to Mr Dreher however, most guests are understanding and look forward to the new Crowne Plaza Hamburg.
The renovation measures will be worthwhile. “We will become one of three flagship properties of the Crowne Plaza chain in Europe,” Mr Dreher says.
With the development and competition in the hotel market increasing in Hamburg, the decision to revamp the property is an investment in the future.
